The San Jose State Spartans and Akron Zips have canceled their future home‑and‑home football series, FBSchedules.com has confirmed.
The two schools originally agreed to a two‑game set beginning in 2024 at InfoCision Stadium–Summa Field in Akron, Ohio, with the return game scheduled for 2027 at CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, Calif.
The opener was later pushed to 2032, followed by an additional amendment that flipped the order of the series — moving the first game to San Jose on Sept. 18, 2032, and placing the second game in Akron on Sept. 17, 2033.
According to an amendment obtained from San Jose State University via a public records request, the schools have mutually agreed to cancel the series entirely. No cancellation fees will be assessed to either institution.
San Jose State has already filled the openings created by Akron’s removal, adding home games against Fresno State and Sacramento State to complete its 2032 non‑conference schedule. The Spartans also scheduled road contests at Fresno State and Washington for the 2033 season.
The status of two additional future series involving San Jose State — Rice (2030–31) and UTSA (2030, 2033) — remains unclear. Both matchups have been removed from the Spartans’ official athletics website, though no formal amendments or cancellations have yet been executed.
San Jose State has been busy tightening up its future non‑conference slate, now locked in through the 2032 season with just a single vacancy remaining in 2030.
