The Sam Houston Bearkats will play at the UCF Knights in 2024, it was announced on Wednesday.
Sam Houston will travel to take on UCF at FBC Mortgage Stadium in Orlando, Fla., on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
The Sam Houston-UCF agreement is for a single contest in Orlando and does not include a return game at Sam Houston.
Sam Houston is currently a member of the Western Athletic Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Bearkats are moving up to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and will compete in Conference USA beginning with the 2023 season.
Other non-conference opponents on the docket for Sam Houston in 2024 include the Rice Owls on the road on Saturday, Aug. 31 and the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors at home at Bowers Stadium in Huntsville, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 14.
UCF was previously scheduled to host the Liberty Flames on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, so that game will likely be moved to another season or canceled altogether. Like Sam Houston, Liberty is also joining Conference USA in 2023 and has been canceling several future non-conference contests.
The Knights are scheduled to open the 2024 season at home against the New Hampshire Wildcats on Saturday, Aug. 31, which we reported on Monday. UCF is also scheduled to play at the Florida Gators on Saturday, Oct. 5 that season.
UCF’s non-conference slate in 2024 should now be complete at three games to go along with a nine-game Big 12 schedule.
