The BYU Cougars will play in the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl, according to a report by ESPN’s Brett McMurphy.

BYU would play a team from the American Athletic Conference, tentatively on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014.

The Miami Beach Bowl will be played at Marlins Park, the home of Major League Baseball’s Miami Marlins. The stadium seats 37,442 with standing room only, although it’s currently unknown what the capacity would be for a football game.

According to Brett McMurphy, the bowl “was originally scheduled to pit teams from the American and Conference USA this year. However, the AAC gave C-USA its spot in the Bahamas Bowl and C-USA allowed BYU to take its spot in the Miami Beach Bowl.”

Back in November, BYU accepted an invitation to play in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl after the 2016 and 2018 seasons.

Should BYU become bowl eligible, they will play in their 33rd bowl game and tenth under head coach Bronco Mendenhall. The Cougars currently hold a 13-18-1 record in bowl games. Their streak of four straight bowl wins was snapped last season after a 31-16 loss to Washington in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.
