The BYU Cougars and Oregon State Beavers announced Monday that their football game in 2027 has been moved to Week Zero.
Originally slated for Week 4 on Saturday, September 25, BYU will now entertain Oregon State on Saturday, August 28, 2027, at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah. The contest will mark the 12th all‑time meeting between the two programs.
The change stems from the NCAA’s June vote to implement a uniform 14‑week regular season beginning in fall 2027. Under the updated model, FBS programs will be allowed to start most seasons in Week Zero—the weekend before Labor Day—and finish the schedule the week after Thanksgiving.
Until now, Week Zero access was limited to Hawaii, teams traveling to Hawaii, and their opponents. FCS teams could also appear in that window if the game received national television placement, but that exception has been eliminated starting this fall.
BYU and Oregon State first met on the gridiron in 1955, and the Beavers claimed the most recent matchup in 2012, winning 42–24 in Provo to take a 6–5 lead in the all‑time series.
BYU’s remaining non‑conference slate for 2027 features Weber State at home on Sept. 4, followed by a trip to Notre Dame on a date still to be announced.
After visiting Provo, Oregon State returns home for non‑conference games against Portland State on Sept. 4 and New Mexico on Sept. 11, before heading to Oxford to face Ole Miss on Sept. 18.

For any FB fans, this is an observation about the fickle state of University FB.
In 2009, BYU was in the Dependant 6 themw.com Conference.
The Cougs were ranked as were the Beavs. BYU showed very well in the LV Bowl.
The Trust 6 pac-12.com Beavers & Cougars scheduled a home & home for 2011-2012 with OSU holding the full-hand in scheduling, in everything.
I attended the 2011 match in Corvallis.
Fast forward to 2026-27 & 2028.
