The Ohio State Buckeyes at Maryland Terrapins football game has been canceled due to COVID-19, it was announced on Wednesday.

The two schools were scheduled to meet at Maryland Stadium in College Park, Md., on Saturday, Nov. 14. The game will not be rescheduled and will be declared a no contest.

“There is nothing more important than the health and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff,” Maryland Director of Athletics Damon Evans said. “We realize that this news is disappointing to all of the Maryland fans out there who were looking forward to the Terps taking on an outstanding Ohio State team, but the responsible thing for us to do is pause football activities, given the number of positive cases currently in our program.”

Over the past week, eight Maryland football players have tested positive for COVID-19, per the release from the school.

“We’re obviously extremely disappointed that we’ll be unable to host Ohio State this Saturday,” said Maryland head coach Michael Locksley. “It was an opportunity that our team was preparing for and excited about. However, we have and always will keep our players, coaches and staffs safety at the forefront of our decision making process. We’ll continue to operate as much as we can virtually as we monitor the situation in hopes of returning to play when it’s deemed safe.”

Maryland’s next scheduled game is on Saturday, Nov. 21 at home against the Michigan State Spartans. Game time and network will be determined following this weekends games.

Ohio State, currently ranked 3rd in the country in both the AP and Coaches polls, is scheduled to host the 10th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, Nov. 21. The game will be televised by FOX at Noon ET.
