The Old Dominion Monarchs have added the South Carolina Gamecocks to their 2024 football schedule, the school announced Friday.
South Carolina will host Old Dominion at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina, on Aug. 31, 2024. The contest will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Old Dominion will be paid a $1.5 million guarantee for the game. This is the largest single-game guarantee in program history, overtaking the $1.32 million Liberty paid for a 2018 contest.
Old Dominion, located in Norfolk, Va., took the field as an FCS club in 2009 under former coach Bobby Wilder, and has gone 77-56 (.579) during that period. That total includes a 24-20 victory over Eastern Michigan in the 2016 Bahamas Bowl. The Monarchs are guided by first-year coach Ricky Rahne.
The trip to the Palmetto State’s capital marks the third non-CUSA tilt for the Monarchs in 2024. East Carolina (Sept. 7) and Virginia Tech (Sept. 14) have planned jaunts to S.B. Ballard Stadium in that year.
The Gamecocks also have three non-SEC outings planned in 2024. The game with the Monarchs comes one week before a visit from Akron (Sept. 7), with the annual Palmetto Bowl slated for Saturday, Nov. 30 at Clemson.
