The New Mexico State Aggies have added the Dixie State Trailblazers to their 2021 football schedule, Director of Athletics Mario Moccia announced on Wednesday.
New Mexico State will host Dixie State at Aggie Memorial Stadium in Las Cruces on Oct. 16, 2021. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Dixie State University, located in St. George, Utah, is moving up to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) in 2020 and will compete as an Independent. New Mexico State is their third announced future Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent, joining BYU (2022) and Colorado State (2023).
New Mexico State, an FBS Independent, now has 11 games for their football schedule in 2021. The Aggies are currently scheduled to open the season at San Diego State on Sept. 4.
Home contests for New Mexico State in 2021 include UTEP (Sept. 18), Hawaii (Sept. 25), Dixie State (Oct. 16), Utah State (Nov. 6), and UMass (Nov. 27). In addition to San Diego State, the Aggies will travel to play New Mexico (Sept. 11), San Jose State (Oct. 2), Nevada (Oct. 9), Alabama (Nov. 13), and Kentucky (Nov. 20).
Dixie State’s 2021 football schedule now consist of seven contests. The Trailblazers are scheduled to open the season at home against Sacramento State on Sept. 4 and later host Weber State (Sept. 11) and Missouri State (Nov. 20).
Road opponents for DSU in 2021 include UC Davis (Sept. 18), Montana (Sept. 25), and South Dakota State (Oct. 2), in addition to today’s announced New Mexico State contest.
