The New Mexico Lobos have added the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles to their 2023 football schedule, it was announced on Friday.

New Mexico will host Tennessee Tech at Dreamstyle Stadium in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs on the gridiron.

New Mexico will pay Tennessee Tech a $350,000 guarantee for the game, according to the copy of the contract the school posted within their release.

Tennessee Tech is the third scheduled non-conference opponent for New Mexico in 2023. The Lobos are also scheduled to play at Texas A&M (Sept. 2) and UMass (Sept. 23) and will host in-state rival New Mexico State on a date to be announced.

Tennessee Tech University, located in Cookeville, Tenn., is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Golden Eagles also have future games scheduled at Tennessee (2021), Georgia (2024), and Mississippi State (2026).

“It’s always a neat experience,” Tennessee Tech head coach Dewayne Alexander said. “Any time you can travel with these guys, it’s exciting. It’s part of the college experience — to go to different places and get the opportunity to compete against other competition and conferences. Certainly, traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico, will be a great experience for our team. They have a unique venue, they host a bowl game at their stadium. It’s really a neat place and a different part of the country – again a place most of the guys on our team wouldn’t ordinarily get a chance to go.”

Tennessee Tech is scheduled to open the 2023 season at Furman.
