The Miami Hurricanes and the Nebraska Cornhuskers are set to begin a football series in 2014. But the series may not be played as agreed to, according to the Lincoln Journal Star.

Miami and Nebraska, which agreed to the home-and-home series back in 2008, are set to meet in Lincoln in 2014 and in Miami in 2015. Sources told the Journal Star that the series “may be in jeopardy.”

Nebraska athletics director Tom Osborne responded to the rumors by stating that the Cornhuskers remain “committed to the series.”

“As of right now, it’s still on, as far as I know,” Osborne said. “We’ll just have to see how that all plays out.”

Obviously, Miami is the party that is contemplating whether to play the series since Nebraska is now on record as wanting to keep it.

In other Nebraska scheduling news, the 2013 Southern Miss game now has a fourth option for a host site. The game is currently slated for Sept. 7 in Hattiesburg, MS, but it had been rumored to be moving to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Then earlier this month, the Journal Star reported it could be played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

“It was really at the request of Southern Miss that we took a look at the Chiefs as well,” Osborne said. “So I don’t know how it’s all going to play out. We have to get the financial details ironed out.”

“We don’t know for sure where that game’s going to be played, whether it’s New Orleans, Kansas City or even Hattiesburg (Miss.).”

Now you can throw a fourth city into the mix — Lincoln, Nebraska. The Journal Star revealed today that Nebraska could host the game, which would give them eight home contests in 2013.

“It’s pretty much at Southern Miss’ discretion as to where we play this game,” Osborne said Friday. “It’s still not finalized, but we have had some discussions (about playing in Lincoln).”
