MAC to Keep Eight-Game Conference Football Schedule

While several power conferences are moving or have already moved to a nine-game conference schedule, one non-power conference has decided to remain at eight.

Per Jeremy Fowler of CBSSports.com, the Mid-American Conference will maintain their eight-game football schedule.

Nearly two weeks ago, the SEC announced they were keeping an eight-game conference football schedule with one caveat — each member must play at least one other power conference team each season beginning in 2016.

The MAC probably wouldn’t issue such an edict for non-conference games since most of their members already play one or more power conference teams anyway.

It’s also likely that the Pac-12 coaches won’t lash out against the MAC’s decision seeing as how the two conferences are very different. The MAC likely won’t be jockeying for a spot in the College Football Playoff any time soon.

The MAC currently has 13 football members, but will drop down to 12 when UMass departs after the completion of the 2015 season.
