The Iowa Hawkeyes will open the 2020 season vs. the Northern Iowa Panthers, the school announced on Thursday.

Iowa will host Northern Iowa at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City on Sept. 5, 2020. The game will be the 18th meeting in a series that Iowa currently leads 16-1.

Iowa and Northern Iowa last met on Aug. 31, 2014. The 2020 matchup will be their first since the Big Ten loosened their restrictions on scheduling FCS teams. Members can now play FCS teams in seasons when they play only four Big Ten games at home.

Northern Iowa is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. So far this season, the Panthers are 2-3 overall and 1-1 in MVC play.

The addition of UNI completes Iowa’s schedule for the 2020 season. As a result of the UNI addition, Iowa has moved their home game vs. NIU to Sept. 26.

Iowa will also host Iowa State in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series on Sept. 12.

In Big Ten play, Iowa is scheduled to host Michigan State, Northwestern, Nebraska, and Wisconsin and travel to Minnesota, Ohio State, Penn State, Illinois, and Purdue.
