The Illinois Fighting Illini have completed their 2014 non-conference football schedule with the addition of games against Texas State and Western Kentucky, the school announced today.
Illinois opens the 2014 season with consecutive games at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. Youngstown State visits on Aug. 30 in the season-opener for both schools. The following week, Western Kentucky visits for their first ever match-up with the Illini.
On Sept. 13, the Fighting Illini hit the road to face the Washington Huskies. Illinois trails in the overall series 5-4, but the two schools haven’t met since 1972.
Illinois’ final non-conference game in 2014 is at home on Sept. 20 against Texas State of the Sun Belt.
The Big Ten has not yet announced the 2014 conference schedule, but Illinois knows they will face Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue, and Wisconsin from the West Division and two teams from the East Division.
Today’s announcement means that Northwestern, Rutgers, and Wisconsin are the only three Big Ten schools that have yet to finalize their 2014 non-conference schedule.
The Sept. 6 game at Illinois also completes the 2014 non-conference schedule for Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers open the season at home against Bowling Green on Thursday, Aug. 28. They also travel to Navy on Sept. 27 and later host Army on Nov. 15.
