The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors at San Jose State Spartans football game has been relocated to Honolulu, the Mountain West announced on Tuesday.
Hawaii was scheduled to travel to face San Jose State at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, Calif., on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020. Due to new COVID-19 guidelines in Santa Clara County, the game could not be contested there.
As a result, San Jose State will now travel to take on Hawaii at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. The game is still scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5. The new kickoff time has not yet been announced, but the game will be televised by Spectrum Sports Pay-Per-View for viewers in Hawaii. Fans on the mainland can view the game via the Team1 Sports app.
“We explored many venue and date options for this game over the last 48 hours,” said San Jose State University Athletics Director Marie Tuite. “Moving the game from San Jose to Honolulu became the best option based on our county and the state’s current public health directives. We want to thank many people who were involved in the decision-making process and there were many – our university administration, the Mountain West office and the conference schools that offered their support.”
San Jose State is 4-0 so far this season. The Spartans’ last two contests, at Fresno State on Nov. 21 and at Boise State on Nov. 28, were both canceled due to COVID-19 issues.
Hawaii has played all six of their scheduled Mountain West contests to date and has recorded a 3-3 record. The Rainbow Warriors hosted and defeated the Nevada Wolf Pack 24-21 on Saturday.
