Google Fiber to Carry SEC Network at Launch

The SEC Network has added another distributor to their lineup. ESPN and Google Fiber have reached an agreement for the multiplatform network to carry the SEC Network at launch.

The SEC Network is set for launch on August 14, 2014. Here is some information from the Google Fiber announcement:

The channel will be available to fans and followers of the Southeastern Conference in Kansas City (KS and MO) and Provo (UT) at launch.  It will also be available in Austin (TX) when Google’s network is completed there.  Google Fiber subscribers will also have authenticated access to additional live events scheduled for the SEC Network’s digital platform, with the ability to watch SEC Network content anytime, anywhere on their television, computer, tablet or mobile device.

“The SEC is pleased to be on the cutting edge of the Google Fiber service as the list of distributors for the SEC Network continues to grow,” said SEC commissioner Mike Slive.

“Google Fiber is the latest provider added to a growing list of distributors who have signed agreements for the SEC Network,” said Justin Connolly, ESPN senior vice president, college networks.  “We look forward to serving SEC fans across the expanding Google Fiber footprint with an unparalleled offering of more SEC content than ever before.”

In its first year, the SEC Network will air over 1,000 live events, including at least 45 exclusive SEC football games, 100+ men’s basketball games, 60 women’s basketball games, 75 baseball games, 50 softball games, and much more.

With the addition of Google Fiber as a carrier, the SEC Network now has four total providers – AT&T U-verse, DISH, Google Fiber, and National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative.
