Florida State adds Savannah State to 2012 football schedule

The Florida State Seminoles have added the Savannah State Tigers to their 2012 football schedule, FSU announced today.

Florida State will host Savannah State on September 8, 2012 at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. The game replaces a date with West Virginia, which the Mountaineers canceled earlier this month.

Savannah State is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Tigers have never played a team from the Football Bowl Subdivision.

The Tigers are jumping into the deep end in 2012 as they will open at Oklahoma State on Sept. 1 before traveling to face the Seminoles.

The addition of Savannah State completes the non-conference portion of the 2012 Florida State Football Schedule. The Noles open the season at home against Murray State on Sept. 1, travel to USF on Sept. 29 and host Florida on Nov. 24.

In ACC play, Florida State will host Boston College, Clemson, Duke, and Wake Forest and travel to Maryland, Miami, NC State and Virginia Tech.

The 2012 ACC Football Schedule should be released this week.

With regards to FSU’s scheduled game at West Virginia in 2013, FSU athletic director Randy Spetman said today that “We’re planning to go there. We’re planning to go up and play that game,” Spetman. “It’s on our schedule, we’ll go there.”
