East Carolina and Virginia Tech have extended their football series through the 2020 season, both schools announced today.
The Pirates and Hokies will renew their series on Sept. 14, 2013 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville. Games in 2015, 2017, and 2019 will also be played in Greenville, while the 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020 meetings will be played at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg.
Earlier this year, Tech announced a postponement of the ECU series due to the ACC moving to a 9-game football schedule. But after the ACC’s agreement with Notre Dame and the decision to stick with an 8-game schedule, both schools needed a game in 2013 and 2014.
Virginia Tech leads the overall series 12-5. In their last meeting in 2011, the Hokies beat the Pirates 17-10 in Greenville.
East Carolina’s 2013 non-conference schedule is now set. The Pirates host Virginia Tech (Sept. 14) and The Citadel (date TBA) and travel to North Carolina (Sept. 28) and NC State (date TBA).
The Hokies have also completed their 2013 slate, which features a game against Alabama in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta on Aug. 31. Tech also hosts Western Carolina (Sept. 7) and Marshall (Sept. 21) and travels to East Carolina (Sept. 14).
