The East Carolina Pirates have added the Charleston Southern Buccaneers to their 2021 football schedule, the school announced on Friday.
East Carolina will host Charleston Southern at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in Greenville, N.C., on Sept. 25, 2021. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools in football.
Charleston Southern is a member of the Big South Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Buccaneers, 2-5 so far this season, last won the Big South Conference championship in 2016.
The addition of Charleston Southern tentatively completes East Carolina’s non-conference football schedule for the 2021 season. The Pirates are scheduled to open the season against Appalachian State on Sept. 4 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. Also on the schedule for ECU is a home contest against South Carolina on Sept. 11 followed by a road game at Marshall on Sept. 18.
East Carolina is the fourth scheduled non-conference opponent for Charleston Southern in 2021. The Buccaneers are also scheduled to play at North Carolina A&T (Sept. 11), at Georgia (Nov. 20), and at The Citadel (date TBA).
East Carolina also announced today that they will play at Michigan on Sept. 2, 2023. The Pirates will receive a $1.8 million guarantee for the game.
