The Duke Blue Devils have added the Campbell Camels to their 2028 football schedule, according to Campbell’s official athletics website.
Duke will host Campbell at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C., on September 1, 2028. The matchup marks the first-ever meeting between the programs; Duke competes in the ACC, while Campbell plays in the FCS as a member of the Coastal Athletic Association.
Campbell becomes Duke’s fourth non-conference opponent for 2028, leaving the Blue Devils overscheduled by one game following the ACC’s move to a nine‑game conference slate.
Duke is slated to host TCU on Sept. 9, a matchup likely to remain in place as ACC members must continue scheduling at least one Power conference opponent each season. As a result, one of Duke’s two road non‑conference games — at Temple on Sept. 16 or at UConn on Oct. 14 — will likely be rescheduled or canceled.
Campbell now has two non-conference opponents on its 2028 slate, joining a road trip to Furman on Sept. 8.
The Camels had previously been scheduled to visit NC State on Sept. 23, 2028, but that game has been moved to Sept. 22, 2029, per Campbell’s website.

There's a chance all of Duke's 2028 OOC games may stay on the schedule. Remember not all ACC teams will be playing nine conference games every year. At least one ACC team has to play eight ACC games, and Duke may be one of those teams.
Duke has nine ACC games this year, including five on the road. Duke so far has three OOC games for 2027, which might mean the Blue Devils will have nine ACC games again. If so, the ACC may give Duke five home games in '27 to compensate for the five on the road in '26. The ACC might not do that two years in a row though.
If Duke's potential ninth ACC game in '28 has to be on the road the Blue Devils may just ask to only play eight games since the OOC game they'll have to drop is a road game anyway. It's best for Duke to just keep their games with UConn and/or Temple in place instead of voiding those contracts and having to pay a fee for the sake of playing another road game. If Duke's ninth conference game was at home in '28 it might be a different discussion.
