The Drake Bulldogs have added the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets to their 2020 football schedule, official websites of both schools confirm.
Drake will host Black Hills State at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Drake was previously scheduled to open the 2020 season at home against Hastings College, but the game was canceled to comply with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) mandate that football cannot start until September 12 due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Drake Bulldogs, members of the Pioneer Football League in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), currently have no other cancellations on their 2020 football schedule.
Black Hills State, a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) in Division II, had two of their non-conference games canceled. The Yellow Jackets were previously scheduled to play at Dickenson State on Sept. 3 and host William Jewell College on Sept. 12.
The remainder of Drake’s 2020 non-conference schedule includes road contests at both North Dakota State on Sept. 12 and Dixie State on Sept. 26.
Drake is scheduled to open Pioneer Football League (PFL) action at home on Oct. 3 against Marist. The Bulldogs also host Davidson, San Diego, and Butler.
Road PFL opponents for Drake in 2020 include Dayton, Morehead State, Valparaiso, and Stetson.
