The Dixie State Trailblazers have added the Nicholls Colonels and the Tarleton State Texans to their future football schedules, FBSchedules.com has learned.
Copies of contracts for games with Nicholls State University and Tarleton State University were obtained from Dixie State University via a state of Utah public records request.
Dixie State and Nicholls will play a home-and-home series beginning at John L. Guidry Stadium in Thibodaux, La., on Sept. 24, 2022. The Trailblazers will host the Colonels three seasons later at Greater Zion Stadium in St. George, Utah, on Nov. 8, 2025.
Dixie State begins competing as a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Independent in 2020. Nicholls is a member of the Southland Conference in the FCS.
Tarleton State, which is also moving up to the FCS as an Independent in 2020, has scheduled a four-game series with Dixie State. The two schools will meet in St. George on Oct. 1, 2022 and then again the following season on Oct. 14, 2023.
The contract between Dixie State and Tarleton State references a separate agreement for two games at Tarleton’s Memorial Stadium in Stephenville, Texas, but that contract was not provided or has not been executed yet. Those two games are tentatively scheduled for Oct. 5, 2024 and Oct. 4, 2025.
Dixie State and Tarleton State are also scheduled to play this upcoming season on Nov. 28 in Stephenville, which we reported in December.
In order to play Tarleton State in 2020, Dixie State postponed their game at South Dakota State. That game is now set for Sept. 28, 2024, per a copy of the amendment obtained from Dixie State. South Dakota State will now pay Dixie State a $215,000 guarantee, which is up $15,000 from the original contract.
Earlier on Friday, Dixie State announced that they will travel to Salt Lake City for two games against the Utah Utes. Those games are slated for Thursday, Aug. 31, 2028 and Thursday, Aug. 29, 2030 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
