College Football Playoff Rankings: Initial 2019 rankings released

The first College Football Playoff Rankings of the 2019 season have been released by the selection committee, and the Ohio State Buckeyes open in first place.

Ohio State is followed by LSU (2), Alabama (3), and Penn State (4). Clemson (5) and Georgia (6) are just outside the top five, and just behind are two Pac-12 teams — Oregon (7) and Utah (8).

Cincinnati (20th) is currently the highest ranked team from a Group of Five conference. Four other teams are just behind the Bearcats — Memphis (21), Boise State (22), Navy (24), and SMU (25). Check out the full CFP Top 25 rankings below.

The College Football Playoff Selection Committee will release their Top 25 rankings each week on Tuesday through Dec. 3. Below is the schedule of dates (all times Eastern):

  • Tuesday, Nov. 5 – 9pm
  • Tuesday, Nov. 12 – 7pm
  • Tuesday, Nov. 19 – 7pm
  • Tuesday, Nov. 26 – 7pm
  • Tuesday, Dec. 3 – 7pm

On Sunday, Dec. 8 at Noon ET, the College Football Playoff Selection Committee will announce the Playoff Semifinal pairings and semifinal bowl assignments. Those will be followed by the pairings for the remainder of the New Year’s Six bowl games.
