The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers at Troy Trojans football game has been postponed due to COVID-19, both schools announced on Friday.
The two schools were scheduled to meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy, Ala., on Saturday, Nov. 14. The game was postponed due to “…a combination of positive COVID-19 tests and injuries to a specific position group within the Troy football program.”
“We are certainly disappointed for our student-athletes with not being able to play this weekend but completely understand the situation,” Coastal Carolina director of athletics Matt Hogue said. “We knew there could be interruptions this season as we work through this environment and the right decision was made in regards to health and safety.”
Coastal Carolina and Troy will work with the Sun Belt Conference to reschedule the game.
“It is unfortunate that we can’t play this week but the safety of our student-athletes, staff, and coaches, as well as Troy’s, are the number one priority,” said Coastal Carolina head coach Jamey Chadwell. “Our team has worked hard all season long and was ready to play. Now we turn our attention to next week.”
The Chanticleers’ next scheduled game is at home against the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday, Nov. 21. The game will be televised at Noon ET by either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
“While postponing a game is never an easy decision to make, it was the correct one in this instance as the health and well-being of our student-athletes and staff are of the utmost importance,” Troy Athletics Director Brent Jones said. “I would like recognize and thank the Sun Belt Conference staff and officials from Coastal Carolina for their collaborative approach and effort to come to this very difficult decision. I would be remiss if I did not thank our amazing staff of medical professionals and athletic trainers for their expertise in guiding us through these unprecedented times.”
Troy is next scheduled to host the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders on Saturday, Nov. 21 (3:30pm ET, ESPN3), which is the second game of an in-season home-and-home series. The Trojans defeated the Blue Raiders on the road to open the season, 47-14.
