The Charlotte 49ers and the Temple Owls have scheduled a 2015-16 home-and-home football series, Charlotte has announced.
Charlotte will host the first game of the series at McColl-Richardson Field on Oct. 3, 2015. The 49ers will then travel to face the Owls at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Sept. 24, 2016.
“It’s huge for our program to have a BIG EAST team play a home-and-home series,” said 49ers head coach Brad Lambert. “Thanks to our relationship with Temple through the Atlantic 10 we were able to get this scheduled. I think it’s a big deal to have them come in here. Coach (Steve) Addazio is doing a great job up there. It will be a big challenge but we’re excited about the opportunity to play them.”
The Charlotte 49ers are set to start their football program in 2013 as an FCS Independent. They will begin C-USA football competition in 2015 after completion of the mandatory two seasons at the FCS level.
Charlotte is tentatively set to open the 2015 season at Georgia State on Sept. 3 (Thursday) and then host Presbyterian on Sept. 12. The 49ers need one more non-conference game to accompany their 8-game C-USA schedule.
Temple’s 2015 schedule currently includes only a game vs. Penn State, while their 2016 schedule consists of a home game vs. Army and a return trip to face the Nittany Lions.
