The Charlotte 49ers at Marshall Thundering Herd football game has been postponed due to COVID-19, it was announced on Monday.
The two schools were scheduled to meet at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, W.Va., on Saturday, Nov. 21. The game was postponed due to “…Covid-19 testing within the 49ers’ program.”
The two schools will work with Conference USA to reschedule the game although they do not share a common open date.
“We were really looking forward to this game. Marshall has a tremendous team and it was a big opportunity to compete against them,” said Charlotte Director of Athletics Mike Hill. “We’ve been on both sides of these postponements, and either way, it’s incredibly disappointing. We will use this week to get healthy and wish Marshall the best this season.”
This is the third consecutive week that Charlotte’s game has either been postponed or canceled. The 49ers (2-3, 2-1 C-USA) postponed their Nov. 7 contest at Middle Tennessee and canceled their Nov. 14 home game against Gardner-Webb.
Charlotte’s next scheduled game is on Saturday, Nov. 28 at home against Western Kentucky. The game is slated for 7:00pm ET and will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
Marshall is currently 7-0 and ranked 15th in the AP Poll. The Thundering Herd will now be off for two consecutive weekends and are scheduled to return to the gridiron on Saturday, Dec. 5 at home against the Rice Owls.
