The Boise State Broncos and the Virginia Cavaliers have scheduled a 2015 and 2017 home-and-home football series, both schools announced today.
In the first game of the series, Boise State will travel to face Virginia at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville on Sept. 26, 2015. The Broncos will then host the second and final game at Bronco Stadium on Sept. 23, 2017.
The 2015 game will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. Boise State is 1-1 against teams from the ACC, while Virginia is only 1-3 against the Mountain West.
Boise State and Virginia both continue to schedule aggressively out of the conference. From 2014 forward, Boise State only has games scheduled against BYU and teams from the power conferences.
In 2015, the Broncos are slated to travel to BYU and Virginia and host Washington. In 2017, Boise travels to Washington State and BYU and hosts the Cavaliers.
Virginia now has future home-and-home series set with Boise State (2015/2017), BYU (2013-14), Oregon (2013/2016), Stanford (2017-18), UCLA (2014-15), and UConn (2016-17). They will also have to reschedule their 2013 game at Penn State.
“I think our fans will be extremely excited about the Broncos hosting an ACC school,” Boise State Director of Athletics Mark Coyle stated. “We continue to work hard on scheduling home-and-home games against BCS opponents and a series like this with an east coast team will help spread the Bronco brand.”
“We’re excited to announce this series with a program that has been exceptional over the last decade,” said Virginia Executive Associate Athletics Director Jon Oliver. “They’ve done it with great coaching, solid recruiting and a fearless approach to competition. We are trying to do the same thing and this will be an incredible challenge for us as we continue to build our program. The 2015 and 2017 seasons could end up being two of the toughest schedules in the history of our football program and we hope they will excite and energize our fans, student-athletes and recruits.”
