The Auburn Tigers have added the Alcorn State Braves to their 2020 football schedule, FBSchedules.com has learned.
A copy of the game contract was obtained from Alcorn State University via a state public records request.
Auburn will host Alcorn State at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Alabama, on Sept. 5, 2020. The Tigers will pay the Braves a $475,000 guarantee for the season-opening game, according to the copy of the contract.
The game contract also stipulates that Alcorn State’s band, known as the “Sounds of Dyn-O-mite” (SOD), will be provided with up to 419 tickets should they attend.
The 2020 matchup between Auburn and Alcorn State will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools on the gridiron.
Alcorn State, located in Lorman, Mississippi, is a historically black institution and the first black land-grant college established in the United States. The Braves compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).
Auburn was previously scheduled to host the Alabama A&M Bulldogs in 2020, but A&M later scheduled a game at Mississippi State instead. It’s currently unknown whether the Auburn-Alabama A&M game will be rescheduled to a later season or canceled altogether.
In Week 2 of the 2020 season (Saturday, Sept. 12), Auburn is slated to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The remainder of Auburn’s 2020 non-conference schedule includes home contests against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Sept. 26 and the UMass Minutemen on Nov. 14.
In SEC play in 2020, Auburn is scheduled to host Arkansas, Kentucky, LSU, and Texas A&M and will play at Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss.
Auburn is scheduled to open the 2019 season on Saturday, Aug. 31 against the Oregon Ducks in the AdvoCare Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Alcorn State opens their schedule on the same date on the road against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
