The Alcorn State Braves have announced their 2020 football schedule, which includes a game at Auburn.
Alcorn State opens the 2020 season on the road on Saturday, Sept. 5 with their first-ever contest against the Auburn Tigers of the SEC. The following week on Sept. 12, the Braves open their home schedule at Jack Spinks Stadium in Lorman, Miss. against the Fort Valley State Wildcats of Division II.
The Braves then head out to open up Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play with a contest at the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils on Sept. 19 before returning to Lorman to host the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Sept. 26.
Alcorn heads East to take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs on Oct. 3 and then returns home to host the Grambling State Tigers on Oct. 10. After their only off week of the season, Alcorn travels to take on the Southern Jaguars on Oct. 24.
The Virginia-Lynchburg Dragons of the NCCAA visit Lorman for Homecoming on Oct. 31, which will also be Alcorn State’s final non-conference contest of the season.
Two of Alcorn State’s final three contests in 2019 are at home, beginning with a visit from the Alabama State Hornets on Nov. 7. Alcorn then plays at the Prairie View A&M Panthers on Nov. 14 before closing out their slate with a home game against the Jackson State Tigers on Nov. 21.
“It’s a competitive schedule, and it always will be in this league,” said Alcorn head coach Fred McNair. “We obviously start with a very challenging game at Auburn that will tell us a lot about ourselves right off the bat. The eight-game conference schedule helps us not need to find an extra game, and gives the fans the opportunity to see more SWAC football.”
Alcorn State is 7-3 overall and 5-1 in SWAC play so far this season. The Braves clinched the SWAC East Division title last week and can clinch home-field advantage in the SWAC Championship Game with a win this weekend at Jackson State.
