The UNLV Rebels and the Iowa State Cyclones have mutually agreed to reschedule their football game in 2020 to the 2030 season, both schools have announced.
UNLV was scheduled to play at Iowa State on Sept. 19, 2020, which was the first game of a home-and-home series. The Rebels will still host the Cyclones next season on Sept. 18 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, as originally scheduled.
The Rebels’ road trip to Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa, will now take place on Sept. 14, 2030.
“We appreciate Jamie’s professionalism as we worked together to find a solution,” said UNLV Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois. “We look forward to welcoming the Cyclones and their fans back to Las Vegas next fall in our new home at Allegiant Stadium.”
UNLV and Iowa State have met five times on the gridiron, most recently in 2008. The Cyclones currently lead the overall series 4-1.
“We are pleased we were able to resolve this scheduling modification so quickly,” Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. “We wanted to make sure our student-athletes and fans knew we are still planning to make the trip to Las Vegas next fall to play a football game in a brand new NFL stadium.”
The matchup in 2030 is the first scheduled non-conference contest for that season for both schools.
“Playing in Las Vegas is like a regular season bowl game for our fan base,” Pollard said. “Amid all of our current challenges and uncertainties, it is exciting to have next year’s trip to look forward to. I am sure thousands of Cyclone fans will make the trip to Las Vegas.”
Both schools will likely have additional adjustments to their 2020 football schedules due to the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
