The NFL announced yesterday that the 2012 season-opening kickoff game will be played on Wednesday, September 5.
The match-up will feature the Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants against a team to be announced. New York will host the game at MetLife Stadium and it will be televised by NBC at 8:30 p.m. ET.
The game, which is usually played on a Thursday, was moved to “avoid a conflict with President Barack Obama’s Thursday night speech at the Democratic National Convention.”
The 2012 NFL schedules will be released in mid-April. The opponents for each team have already been released.
One 2012 NFL game is already set. The St. Louis Rams will take on the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London on Sunday, October 28.
