The Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants are set to kick off the 2012 NFL season on Wednesday night.

New York will host the game at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ at 8:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised nationally by NBC and is a special edition of “Sunday Night Football.”

The 2012 NFL season opener is usually played on a Thursday night, but this year’s game was moved to Wednesday to “avoid a conflict with President Barack Obama’s Thursday night speech at the Democratic National Convention.”

Last season, the Super Bowl Champion Giants swept both games against the Cowboys. New York slipped by Dallas 37-34 in Arlington on Dec. 11 and beat them again 31-14 at home on Jan. 1.

On Sunday, 26 teams will be in action. The first full day of the NFL regular season will be capped off when Pittsburgh visits Denver on Sunday Night Football (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC).

Monday Night Football will feature two games, beginning with Cincinnati at Baltimore at 7 p.m. ET followed by San Diego at Oakland at 10:15 p.m. ET. Both games will be televised by ESPN.
